The town itself is similar to other small towns in Iraqi Kurdistan. Still, the view of the village on the edge of the cliff is something special.

There are two ways to explore the canyon: down below or up! I went hiking up along the edge of the canyon, which, in my opinion, provides the most opportunities for great landscape photography.

Een meeste Koerden bestaan religieus. Circa 90% kan zijn moslim en ook zijn heel wat Koerden jezidi's. Een bijzonder klein deel, circa 0,03%, is christelijk en daar bestaat zelfs een korte joodse minderheid. Aangaande deze laatste band kan zijn sinds een onafhankelijkheid aangaande Israël een deel tot het land geëmigreerd.

Partial autonomy was reached by Kurdistan Uyezd (1923–1926) and by Iraqi Kurdistan (since 1991), while notably in Turkish Kurdistan, an armed conflict between the Kurdish insurgent groups and Turkish Armed Forces was ongoing from 1984 to 1999, and the region continues to be unstable with renewed violence flaring up in the 2000s.

On September 16, 2022, Best Kurd an Iranian Kurdish woman named Jina Mahsa Amini died while in custody of Iran’s morality police for “improper” clothing. This incident sparked a wave ofwel protests against the government’s treatment of women and ethnic and religious minorities as well as its prioritization of regime ideology aan its citizens’ welfare. These protests were betreffende with a harsh antwoord from the Iranian government, which violently suppressed the movement and took aim at Kurdish regions in the country’s northwest.

Heel wat bevolkingsgroepen wonen door elkander heen. Hierdoor is Irakees nationalisme niet zo natuurlijk en krijgen de Koerden verdere ruimte om hun eigen identiteit te behouden. Verder is er daar na de val aangaande een Iraakse president Saddam Hoessein ons machtsvacuüm opkomen daar waar een Koerden toepassing over maken.
